Medically Supervised Weight Loss Before Surgery
Meet your surgeon’s weight or BMI requirement safely — physician-led programs in Jacksonville and via telehealth in 6 states
“Come back when you’ve lost 30 pounds.” If a surgeon has told you something like that, you’re not alone — many orthopedic, hernia, plastic, and bariatric surgeons set weight or BMI thresholds before they will schedule a procedure, because surgical risk and recovery outcomes improve at a lower weight. The problem is that most patients are sent away with a goal and no plan.
That plan is what we do. Dr. Blissenbach is a dual board-certified internal medicine and obesity medicine physician — she builds a medical weight loss program around your surgery date, monitors you along the way, and times your medications correctly around your procedure. Whether your operation is scheduled at Baptist, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, UF Health, or anywhere else, we work on your side of the prep.
Losing weight before surgery on a deadline is different from ordinary dieting. You have a hard date, a specific target from your surgeon, and — if you use GLP-1 medications like semaglutide or tirzepatide — a timing question that genuinely matters: current anesthesia guidance calls for pausing weekly GLP-1 medications in the window before a procedure. We build that pause into your plan from day one, so your weight loss never becomes a scheduling problem for your surgical team.
You’ll also have a physician tracking your progress toward the specific number your surgeon set — not an app, not a franchise coach. Book a free consultation and bring your surgeon’s requirement with you; we’ll map the path to it.
All three programs include prescription GLP-1 medication (semaglutide or tirzepatide), supportive injections, and physician monitoring. Your surgery date decides how much runway you have — and we time everything around it, including the pre-procedure medication pause.

Individual results vary. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are prescription medications and are not appropriate for everyone; eligibility is determined by Dr. Blissenbach during your consultation. These programs are not a guarantee of any specific amount of weight loss. This program supports, but does not replace, your surgical team’s pre-operative instructions — always follow your surgeon’s and anesthesiologist’s guidance.
1. Free consultation. Bring your surgeon’s weight or BMI requirement and your target surgery window; Dr. Blissenbach reviews your health history and current medications.
2. Get a date-driven plan. We match you to the 12, 8, or 4-week program that fits your timeline and set a realistic path to your surgeon’s number.
3. Lose weight under supervision. Medication, supportive injections, and regular monitoring — with your progress documented along the way.
4. Arrive surgery-ready. We time your GLP-1 pause per anesthesia guidance ahead of your procedure, so you show up at pre-op with the target met and the medication question already handled.
